Is Casio WK-200 For You?

If you feel this is just yet another low quality plasticy piano keyboard from Casio, you are in for a surprise. I had been nevertheless persuaded to go with a pal to look at Casio WK-200 as he had been told that it is not the same.

Casio WK-200 has 76 piano style touch sensitive keys, therefore it is in between the light keys in complete synthesizer and the weighted keys in piano. This is a nice bridge if you need to transition between keyboard and piano or synthesizer and keyboard. Casio Step Up Lesson system, lesson workbook and good sized LCD display which graphically illustrates fingering and notes had been fashioned with beginners in mind are all a part of Casio WK-200. These training programs makes it achievable to actually self learn piano.

You will also get a recording function for your composition and play, an instant recall ability for preset tones as well as other keyboard setup, auto harmonization capability, arpeggiator, reverb and digital effects and not forgetting USB port for MIDI and MP3/Audio connectivity. This is especially good for hooking up to your home pc to have fun and check out far more music and style and very much preferred by more skilled players.

This keyboard incorporates integrated speakers with a strong bass response and crisp and clear highs, therefore you need not worry about the need to get additional speakers. The keyboard is light in weight and thus easily transportable enough to move it about. The keys are not weighted as with piano, but it is full piano style and is touch sensitive, therefore cross over between this keyboard and piano is not hard.

My sole criticism is that you have to purchase the AC adapter on its own as Casio does not supply it in the box, which I find a bit odd. It does work on batteries though if you prefer.

The piano sounds are really rich and packed with character. A lot of  the Rhodes and Clavinet voices are every bit as good. The chromatic percussion sets are wonderful too, filled with very musical timbres. Above that, there are some respectable sounding rhythms and drum sounds.

It definitely outperform what I paid for.
